COVID-19 Maps and Visualization Tools
In response to COVID-19, we’ve created a suite of maps and data visualization tools to help you better understand the repercussions of this global health crisis. From what school districts are being affected by the lack of broadband availability, to the shrinking number of available hospital beds, these maps were designed to provide greater clarity into what’s happening in rural America and beyond.

COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on the US economy with mass closures of businesses and spiking unemployment claims. We created this interactive map to identify counties that face above-average economic risks due their businesses and industry sector landscape, and the age of the workforce in the area. What happens to rural hospitals when urban-dwellers abandon their full-time residences and escape to their rural second homes during COVID-19? We created an interactive map to show the challenges rural hospitals may face when they need to accommodate unexpected (and potentially long-term) influxes in the populations they serve. People over the age of 60 are at the highest risk for severe health problems relating to COVID-19. Unfortunately, this subset of the population, especially those living in rural areas, have had their medical needs grossly underserved since long before this national health crisis emerged. With a dramatic rise in rural hospital closures since 2010, and poor broadband infrastructure unable to support modern telehealth solutions, we as a nation are failing to protect aging rural Americans. Use this map to understand the scope of the issues facing our rural health care system, and where there may be opportunities to expand telehealth access. Learn about our map.View Map
As COVID-19 continues to spread across the country, we’ve created an interactive map that shows the growing number of cases and where they are located.View Map
How does broadband inequality complicate COVID-19 school closures in rural areas? To help illustrate some of the stark realities of what rural Americans are experiencing in the wake of this monumental health crisis, CORI’s Mapping and Data Analytics team has created an interactive broadband map to better visualize and understand broadband availability across America’s school districts.
